An acid cabinet is a lockable storage unit built specifically to contain acids, alkalis, and corrosive chemicals. Unlike standard COSHH cabinets, which are constructed from powder-coated steel, acid cabinets use HDPE (high-density polyethylene) or polypropylene for the body, shelves, and sump base.

Both materials resist chemical attack from the full range of acids and corrosive substances, maintaining structural integrity over long-term use and making them the correct storage solution for laboratories, schools, chemical processing facilities, and any site where corrosive substances are in regular use.

Our standard acid cabinets are constructed from chemical-resistant polypropylene with a lockable door, adjustable shelving, and a built-in sump base to contain any spillage. Suited to laboratories, school science departments, and industrial sites where acids and alkalis are stored in moderate quantities.

The AWAY range provides a more substantial specification for sites where acid volumes are higher or where ventilation of fumes is a priority. Built from chemical-resistant materials in larger formats (1350x1000x450mm and 1935x595x600mm), AWAY cabinets are suited to chemical processing facilities, university laboratories, and industrial environments where acids are used or stored at scale.

The full-height AWAY cabinet with glass doors allows contents to be identified without opening the cabinet, which reduces unnecessary exposure and speeds up inventory checks in busy laboratory environments.

  • Acid cabinets are suitable for acids (sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid), alkalis (sodium hydroxide, ammonia), and other corrosive substances. Always check the substance's safety data sheet to confirm material compatibility before selecting a cabinet.

  • Under the COSHH Regulations 2002, employers must store substances hazardous to health in appropriate, lockable storage that prevents unauthorised access and contains potential spills. For corrosive substances including acids, this means a cabinet constructed from chemical-resistant materials rather than steel. Standard COSHH cabinets do not meet this requirement for acid storage.
