  • What are the best lunch tables for small spaces?

For small spaces, round tables are an excellent choice. Their compact design allows them to fit into tighter spaces while still providing ample seating for multiple people. Additionally, the round shape encourages interaction, making the most of the available space.

  • Why choose fixed canteen units?

Fixed canteen units are ideal for high-traffic areas like schools, hospitals, and factories. They prevent furniture from being moved around, ensuring that the seating arrangement remains consistent and organised. These units are also durable and easy to clean, making them perfect for environments where hygiene and maintenance are priorities.

  • How do I choose the right canteen table for my office?

When choosing a canteen table, consider the size of your space, the number of people it needs to accommodate, and the overall aesthetic you're aiming for. For larger spaces, rectangular tables provide ample seating, while smaller spaces may benefit from round or fixed seating options. Additionally, choose materials that are easy to clean and durable enough to withstand daily use.

  • Are canteen tables easy to maintain?

Yes, most lunch tables from AJ Products are designed to be easy to maintain. Our rectangular canteen tables and fixed canteen units feature laminate tops that are resistant to scratches, dirt, and moisture, making them easy to wipe clean and ideal for busy environments.

  • What size canteen table do I need?

Allow roughly 600mm of table width per person. A standard 1800x800mm rectangular canteen table seats six - four along the long sides and one at each end. A 1200x800mm table seats four. For round tables: 700mm diameter seats two to three; 900mm seats four; 1100mm seats five to six; 1200mm seats six to eight. If space is limited, round tables are more efficient - the shape allows easier movement around the table and between adjacent tables.

  • What height are standard canteen tables?

Standard canteen dining tables are 720mm high - consistent with a conventional dining table and compatible with chairs with a seat height of 430–450mm. This is the standard across the rectangular, round and fixed canteen unit ranges. Bar-height canteen tables, designed for use with bar stools or standing, are typically 900mm high.

A well-chosen canteen table does more than fill a room, it sets the tone for how employees and students experience their break time. Discover the impact a well-furnished lunchroom can have on employee wellbeing.

The most common choice in staff canteens and workplace dining rooms - practical, easy to arrange in rows or clusters, and simple to clean. Our rectangular and square canteen tables come with laminate tops that resist scratches and moisture, adjustable feet for uneven floors, and T-shaped frames with curved bases that make sweeping underneath them straightforward.

Round canteen tables earn their place in spaces where atmosphere matters as much as seating capacity. They're less formal and more inviting. They work particularly well in smaller staff rooms and office canteens where the floor plan is awkward. Available in 700mm, 900mm, 1100mm and 1200mm, with chrome or grey frames.

Fixed canteen units aren't for every space - but when they're right, there's nothing better. One unit, four seats, bolted in place. No chairs wandering off to the wrong end of the room, no tables getting dragged out of alignment during a busy lunch service. Particularly popular in high-footfall environments where consistency and hygiene matter: schools, hospitals, factory canteens. Heavy-duty frames, laminate tops, polypropylene seats - built for a long life with minimal fuss.

School dinner halls are a different challenge to office canteens - multiple sittings a day, mixed age groups, and a cleaning routine that has to be fast. School lunch tables need to be robust enough to handle all of that without showing it after a term.

Our school canteen tables are designed with educational settings in mind. The ENVIRO range in particular has been built specifically for school dining rooms — a durable laminate top, a solid frame that stays stable under the kind of use a busy school generates, and sizes that work across primary and secondary. Available in rectangular and round formats to suit the layout of the room.

Office canteens and staff rooms have different demands to schools - but they're not as different as people assume. The table still needs to clean up quickly, seat a sensible number of people, and look presentable without requiring much maintenance. What changes is the aesthetic. Workplace canteen tables tend to favour slightly warmer finishes - birch, oak, walnut - rather than the more institutional look of a school dining room.

The difference goes beyond finish. Heavy-duty canteen tables for factory floors and industrial settings are typically fixed units whilst office canteen tables are a different product entirely: freestanding, designed with aesthetics in mind, available in warmer laminates and considered frame finishes that wouldn't look out of place in a modern workspace.
