Eight ways to enjoy the Summer when you’re at work

1. Make your outdoor space actually usable
2. Walk or cycle in if you can
3. Get up earlier than you need to
An extra hour before work sounds like torture until you try it. A run, a slow breakfast outside, ten minutes doing absolutely nothing in the garden. It sets a completely different tone for the day than rolling straight from alarm to inbox.
4. Turn break time into actual social time
Summer is the easiest excuse of the year to get colleagues talking outside of meetings. A barbecue, a round in the local beer garden, or even just moving lunch outdoors works, as long as there's somewhere comfortable to sit. Outdoor benches are a low-effort way to make unused outdoor space feel like somewhere worth lingering, rather than somewhere people walk through on the way to the car park.
5. Build a summer playlist for the office
Music helps plenty of people concentrate and a shared summer playlist is a genuinely easy way to lift the mood in an open-plan office without spending a penny.
6. Keep a "straight to the beach" bag ready
Towel, sunscreen, swimwear, the lot - packed and left in the car or under your desk. The point isn't elaborate planning; it's removing the one excuse ("I'd need to go home and get changed first") that usually kills a spontaneous after-work swim.

7. Run an actual sports afternoon
Playing sports outdoors with colleagues is a great way to strengthen the team spirit and to take advantage of good weather. Maybe an afternoon football tournament, some beach tennis or maybe a quick throw of a Frisbee at lunch - the main thing is that you do it together.
