Sorting waste should be easy

Sorting waste should be easy

A well functioning waste management system comprises a smart segregation of office waste. If a large amount of waste is recycled, it is considered a profit for us as well as the nature. With clear and easily accessible waste sorting, an environment friendly behaviour becomes a natural part of the working day. In other words, a sustainable working day.

Identifying waste sorting needs

Recycling used material is good for the environment and saves the earth's natural resources. Empty packages, newspapers and electric waste can be sorted for recycling. With a good waste sorting system at the workplace, sorting waste becomes effortless. Waste sorting should be easy and a natural part of the daily routines.

First and foremost, estimate the amount of waste generated in your company and the waste that needs to be sorted. This facilitates setting up a plan for efficient waste sorting. Perhaps several types of containers are required at different places. The work carried out in the premises is often varied and also results in a varying amount and type of waste between the different departments.

Different types of waste to consider

Hazardous waste for example is waste oil, impregnated wood, solvents and different colour and chemical wastes.

Electric waste is quite simply any waste with cable or battery. Electronics, fluorescent lamps, low energy lamps and batteries also belong to this category.

Newspapers can be recycled into new paper. Also brochures, office paper and the like.

Packages of paper, paperboard and corrugated cardboard.

Plastic packaging such as plastic cans, plastic tubes, plastic bottles and styrofoam.

Glass packaging such as glass bottles and glass cans. They are often divided into coloured and uncoloured.

Metal packaging which is commonly used is aluminium foil, aluminum moulds, cans, caps and lids.

Food waste is quite simply leftover food that is collected and converted into biogas or biofertilizer.

Bulk waste consists of big objects that are not packages.

Combustible waste is what we in everyday speech call household waste. That is where waste that cannot be sorted is disposed.

Choice of waste containers

We have a variety of waste containers to choose from depending on the type of business and part of premises designated for waste sorting. The number of people present in the premises and the quantity of waste also play a role.

Canteen: For a big canteen, a waste sorting cabinet with openings for sorting is a smart and convenient choice. Place several cabinets next to each other for sorting various types of waste. Waste sorting cabinet with drawers and plastic boxes at a height is an excellent space-efficient alternative for a small canteen. A compost container where the leftovers are disposed in a compost bag prevents food wastage by converting the leftovers into biogas.

Office: Here you may need a battery bin for batteries used for mouse and keyboard. For recycling paper, a simple plastic box may be enough but if paper usage is more, then a waste container with casters may be a better solution. Waste containers with flip-top lids in different colours may be suitable for collecting waste such as PET bottles and aluminium cans.

Warehouse: Tipping containers are perfect for efficient sorting and material handling of waste such as metal, gravel, cement and wood. Tipping containers are adapted for use with a forklift and withstand tough handling. Invest in tipping containers in different colours to facilitate waste sorting and choose preferably a model with automatic tipping and unloading.

Preschool: Facilitate waste sorting for children by choosing low height colour-coded sorting containers.

TIPS! Efficient sorting in a small space

For congested spaces or smaller premises, we recommend this caster-equipped waste sorting module. Easy to place and easy to move where required.

Easy sorting with clear labelling

When the waste containers are in place, label them so that there is no doubt about what needs to be disposed in them. Containers in different colours stand for waste sorting. Alternatively, you can use self-adhesive picture stickers that can be easily stuck on the waste container or sorting cabinet. You can also make your own labels using a labelling machine.

Place the waste sorting in a visible and easily accessible place. That facilitates everyone to sort correctly so that waste can be easily recycled and converted into something new.

Emptying and cleaning

It is obvious that the containers are to be emptied regularly; emptying them should be as easy as it is to fill them. Filled containers and waste bags are not a delight for anyone and prevent sorting despite good intentions. Especially containers with food waste may soon be perceived as stale. Set up routines for emptying and cleaning the recycling containers.

Choose waste containers with casters which facilitate moving them when it is time to empty. This makes waste management more efficient and convenient. Sorting cabinets are available as waste bag holders with casters or ordinary waste containers with casters and handles. Smaller waste sorting cabinets often have plastic boxes with handles or waste buckets that facilitate emptying the waste. Another alternative is to choose small waste sorting containers with caster-equipped trolleys.

Everything that is sorted must be transported to the right place for recycling. If you are uncertain about the rules within your area, you must contact your municipality for more information on recycling and waste management.

TIPS! Package with four waste containers

Low budget set includes four differently coloured 60 litre waste containers with lids and two trolleys, and space for two containers per trolley.

  • Practical mobile solution on wheels
  • Lid with grip handles that facilitate opening and emptying
  • The trolleys have easy to move casters and can be joined with each other

Recycling is a simple effort towards a better environment

With a good waste sorting system there are greater chances of things ending up right. The more we recycle, the lesser resources we consume, and prevent hazardous substances from coming out in nature. We can all help toward creating a better environment.
