The timer is motion controlled, meaning you don't have to click a button to start it - just wave your hand in front of it to start. When the timer starts it plays music but you can also choose to only use beeps to indicate the next stage of the washing process or to completely turn off the sound. The beeps and symbols guide you in how long you should soap up your hands for and when it is time to rinse.
